In 2009, Childhelp commemorated 50 years of bringing the light of hope and healing into the lives of countless children. Co-founders Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson started Childhelp in 1959, establishing it as a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and neglect and at-risk children.
Childhelp currently has over 25 chapters and auxiliaries across the U.S. Founded in August 2010, Childhelp Wasatch Front is excited to be one of the first chapters in Utah. Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff will introduce the new chapter at the upcoming Rescue the Future event in October:
One of my top priorities as attorney general is to fight the scourge of child abuse. We can only save our children by working together as an entire community, so I am thrilled Childhelp, the renowned national child protection charity, is opening a Wasatch Front Chapter.
Childhelp exists to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children. We focus our efforts on advocacy, prevention, treatment and community outreach.
Childhelp Wasatch Front hopes to raise funds and collaborate with other agencies to help realize its short-term goals including:
- Introducing Childhelp Wasatch Front and raising funds through its Rescue the Future event
- Partnering with a sister city to host a fundraising ski event in Park City
- Creating and distributing art therapy bags for displaced children and those recovering from abuse
- Developing an art therapy program as a resource for local organizations
- Establishing Childhelp’s “Be Safe, Speak Up” awareness program in Utah schools
The chapter’s long-term goal is to work with others to build a residential treatment facility (known as a village) in Utah that offers comprehensive treatment programs for severely abused and at-risk children.
Eve Foussard, Founding President of Childhelp Wasatch Front, has a strong background in major business management and extensive experience in developing charities and charity events. Her vision and passion are driving the new chapter in its fight against child abuse in Utah:
Our goal is to help these children experience the life they deserve—one filled with love. Our principal mission is to provide them with an environment of love and kindness and the best possible treatment so they will see how special they truly are.
Together we will accomplish much for many.
